Madhavan's latest release Rocketry: The Nambi Effect is a biopic on the former space scientist at the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), who was falsely accused of espionage, arrested and was acquitted later. The film helmed by Madhavan, has the actor playing the titular character. Madhavan has also written the story and produced the film. The film, which released today, has been receiving positive reviews from the critics and audience alike.

Nambi Narayanan, in the meantime, stated that his story had left Madhavan in tears. He revealed that they had interacted closey during the research and amking of the film and that certain portions, especially the torture by the police, had to be toned down. The plot follows the hardships and tribulations of Nambi Narayanan, who was wrongfully convicted of espionage in 1994.

Madhavan had earlier release a video about how the film happened in the first place. In the video, he had stated that he had tears in his eyes when he watched a moving interview of Nambi Narayanan on YouTube. He called it the defining moment that made him decide that he would have to do this film,"

He added that he could see that deep inside was a man who was hurt, who was devastated by the lack of acknowledgement and accusation that impacted him and his family. "There was embarrassment and tears in his eyes, but deep inside was the expression of absolute truth. I said to myself that this is a story that I have to tell," he had stated in the video. It took seven months of research, before Madhavan began working on the film and another 18 months to put the story together.

The film also stars Simran, Rajit Kapur, and Gulshan Grover. Shah Rukh Khan (Hindi) and Suriya (Tamil) have made a special appearance in the film.
