The North American Bengali Conference is back in the news. After the alleged mismanagement last year, this year’s convention has largely been peaceful. However, at the wee hour of Saturday, more than a dozen Bengali celebrities, including Swastika Mukherjee, Anirban Bhattacharya, Sohini Sarkar, Srijit Mukherji, Kaushik Ganguly, Churni Ganguly, Ishaa Saha, Rupam Islam, Anindya Chattopadhyay, Arindam Sil, Kamaleswar Mukherjee, and others stepped out of their hotel in Chicago after the fire alarm went off.

Talking to OTTplay exclusively from Chicago, National Award-winning director Kaushik Ganguly said, “It was around 5 am and we suddenly got up as the shrill alarm went off. We all stepped out at the parking lot. We rushed out and hence could barely tackle our door key. It took them about 45 minutes to figure out the source. There seemed to be no major fire incident though they did not disclose much. After the investigation was over, we were all called back.”

The director further added that after the situation was under control, almost all of them stepped out for a cup of coffee before starting their day. In fact, this is not the first time Kaushik experienced such a fire alert. “About a couple of years ago, I was in the UK shooting a film when a similar thing happened. At that time, there was a real incident of fire.  As we stepped out of the building we saw a plume of smoke gushing out of a window. There was a fire in the kitchen. This time, it was nothing of that sort.”

Kaushik further stated that western countries, including the UK and the US, take fire drills seriously. “Here the fire alarm goes off even with a minor incident. Everybody is aware and knows what to do. This time I saw All the tourists in the hotel calmly stepping out. There was no rush,” he added.

North American Bengali Conference is in full swing in Chicago, US. Celebrities from the Bengali entertainment industry were seen enjoying the American summer on social media.
