Music fraternity from across the country mourns his death
Eminent singer Bhupinder Singh breathed his last in Mumbai on Monday at a hospital. He was suffering from suspected colon cancer and COVID-19-related complications, He was 82. According to his wife Mitali Singh, the renowned musician was admitted to a Mumbai hospital with a urine infection. There, he contracted Covid. He is survived by his wife and son.
While talking to news agency PTI, Mitali said, “He was admitted to the hospital eight to ten days ago as he had some infection in the urine. After tests were performed, he tested positive for Covid-19. He passed away at around 7.45 pm due to suspected colon cancer and had Covid.”
In his more than five-decade-long career, Bhupinder Singh offered a bouquet of melodious hits, including Naam Gum Jayega, Ek Akela Is Shaher Mein, Dil Dhoondta Hai and so on. He started his career in All India Radio, Delhi, as a singer and musician. Madan Mohan spotted him and brought him to Mumbai. He debuted in Bollywood in the early ’60s with Madan Mohan's composition, Hoke Majboor Mujhe Usne Bulaya Hoga, in Chetan Anand’s Haqeeqat. Ever since, he worked with RD Burman, Md Rafi, Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhonsle, Gulzar, Bappi Lahiri and several others.
Apart from playback singing, Bhupinder also played the guitar for popular songs, including, Dum Maro Dum, Chura Liya Hai, Chingari Koi Bhadke, and Mehbooba O Mehbooba and many others. Music fraternity from across the country expressed condolences to the late musician's family.
