Nagarjuna, who was out of action for a major part of the year, has broken his ‘Sunday’ holiday rule to shoot Naa Saami Ranga as per schedule and release it for Sankranthi 2024. Choreographer Vijay Binni wields the megaphone for the action drama produced by Srinivasaa Chitturi under Srinivasaa Silver Screen. An intro glimpse of Ashika Ranganath, who made her Telugu debut in Amigos, was out today.

Ashika is cast as a traditional girl Varalakshmi in the film and the adorable glimpse showcases her beauty and expressive face, as Nagarjuna, while smoking a beedi, tries to woo her. A folk song in the background, composed by MM Keeravaani, contributes to its appeal. The makers, meanwhile, confirmed that the first single - Yethukelli Povalanipisthunde - would be launched soon.

Naatu Naatu fame Oscar-winner Chandrabose is the lyricist for the song. The team is racing against time to shoot the film. Prasanna Kumar Bezawada has written the story and dialogues for the action drama. Naa Saami Ranga, touted to be a remake of the Malayalam film Porinju Mariyam Jose, reportedly has a Sankranthi backdrop within the story, another reason that’s prompting the team to stick to the announced date.

Naa Saami Ranga is locking horns with many biggies next year - the list runs long comprising films like Ravi Teja’s Eagle, Prasanth Varma’s HanuMan, Venkatesh’s Saindhav and Mahesh Babu’s Guntur Kaaram. Recently, Vijay Deverakonda starrer Family Star backed out of the Sankranthi race. Will there still be a good window to release five films in theatres the same weekend? We’ll know shortly.

The makers of Naa Saami Ranga had two major releases in 2023 - the Naga Chaitanya, Krithi Shetty starrer Custody, directed by Venkat Prabhu and Skanda, headlined by Ram Pothineni, Sreeleela and directed by Boyapati Sreenu. Custody is out on Amazon Prime Video while Skanda can be streamed on Disney+ Hotstar.
