A mother is sobbing outside an ashram because she has been denied access to her daughters. A devastated father is frantically searching for clues about his kidnapped children. A disillusioned follower dealing with the man she held in the greatest regard's demands for nude photos In a place meant for worship and reflection, a young man questions the prevalence of sexual assault and violence.

These are only a few of the claims made by genuine believers, leaving one to wonder who is telling the truth and who is lying. Is it possible that there are multiple versions of the truth? Is this just a series of allegations, or is there more to it? What exactly happens inside a cult? Is it possible for someone professing to be a Godman to actually be a Conman?

The discovery+original that documents charges made by ex-devotees and much more, recounts the life of the controversial Swami Nithyananda while giving a voice to those who were at the centre of it all. From June 2, the series will be available exclusively on Discovery+ in India, with other foreign regions to follow at a later date.

The three-part series, created by VICE Studios, the global production branch of VICE Media Group, follows the self-styled 'Godman,' who reportedly fooled his followers by bringing them into his ashram and gurukul trust, "Nithyananda Dhyanapeetam," and then allegedly abused them.

The docu-series gives a story of the highs and lows of Nithyananda's life in the pursuit of the explanation for his great following despite being labelled a fugitive by his ex-followers, with testimonials from devotees, attorneys, journalists, and activists. The followers and ex-devotees share a personal perspective while giving vital information that helps us better understand the complete narrative, having lived the story themselves.

My Daughter Joined a Cult will be available to stream in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, English, Kannada, and Malayalam on discovery+ India beginning June 2. The 3x45' series is directed by Naman Saraiya for VICE Studios and produced by VICE Studios for Discovery+.
