Music director Sushin Shyam stated in an interview with Film Companion South that the most fascinating aspect of working with Manjummel Boys was Chidambaram creating a video that chronicled the experiences of the actual people who endured this incident. He said that it helped with the work and that he perceived it like a movie.

"Chidambaram requested that I watch this documentary in order to gain a deeper understanding of the characters and their emotions," he stated. The musician went on to say that he was inspired to commit to this work by the director's one-liner.

Sushin stated that he would characterise this movie as being about brotherhood and friendship in an era before cell phones.

He continued by saying that he had been to the locations prior to the shoot in order to comprehend the aura, which was helpful to him. "I had a blocked mind and was stuck at one point. However, I remained in Kodaikanal and started working ten days ahead of the filming," he remarked.

Just two days prior to the start of filming, he made Chidambaram listen to the soundtracks. “I wanted him to listen to them only after I was 100% sure about it,” he said.

Sushin stated that although he initially considers whether or not the project excites him, he does get some ideas while listening to the story. He continued, "It would be difficult for me to work in a tense survival drama like the Hollywood film Buried. Random long conversations with Chidambaram have also given me some ideas on composing the soundtracks."

He went on to say that when he composes music, he primarily focuses on the scenario at hand and the appropriate feelings that go along with it. The music director also stated that in order to fully understand the music that young people were exposed to in those days, he looked to musicians such as Yogi B for inspiration.

Sushin Shyam’s 23rd project

The music director has already received recognition for his compositions in films that became superhits, such as Bheeshma Parvam, Minnal Murali, and Romancham. His most recent work was Mammootty’s Kannur Squad.
