After helming two thrillers – Sathyam Maathrame Bodhipikku and Veekam with Dhyan Sreenivasan, filmmaker Sagar has chosen an emotion drama based on true incidents for his third directorial titled Kanakarajyam.

The team last week had released the first look poster featuring Indrans’ character along with his wife and daughter, essayed by Jolly Chirayath and Athira Patel. Recently, they also revealed another poster – this time of its other protagonist essayed by Murali Gopy. Both posters had the lead characters along with their families, and that reflects the crux of the movie, which is an emotional drama.

Talking to Kochi Times, the filmmaker had divulged that the film is based on real-life incidents revolving around a jewellery theft in Alappuzha back in 2005. Indrans plays the role of a security guard in the movie while Murali will be seen in a rustic avatar in the film, which explores the dynamics between the two lead characters.

Kanakarajyam has Leona Lishoy essaying the role of Murali’s wife in the film, while Dinesh Prabhakar, Sreejith Ravi and Kottayam Ramesh are also part of the cast. Those part of the movie say that Sagar and team have opted for a realistic portrayal of the events that transpired and hasn’t added any commercial elements “to do justice to the relatable story”.

Meanwhile, Murali, who was previously seen in Amazon Prime Video release Kuruthi last year, also has Krishna Sankar’s Kochaal gearing up for release. The actor has also written the script for Rathish Ambat’s Theerppu, which has Prithviraj Sukumaran, Indrajith Sukumaran, Saiju Kurup, Vijay Babu and Hannah Reji Koshy as part of the cast. The film is rumoured to be an OTT release.

Murali is also busy with the scripting of Empuraan. Prithviraj recently said that the scriptwriter has completed the first half and they will be discussing the second half of the Lucifer sequel in the next few months.
