Mammootty is one of the rare superstars of Indian cinema, who never stopped experimenting with his film choices. Even though the post-pandemic phase of the veteran actor's career is being heavily praised he has always been open to projects that push his limits. Munnariyippu, the 2014-released psychological thriller film directed by cinematographer-filmmaker Venu, is one such film that deserves much more recognition from cinephiles. The critically acclaimed film, which completed the 10th year of its release, is available for online streaming.
If you wish to revisit Munnariyippu on OTT, the acclaimed Mammootty starrer, which also stars Aparna Gopinath in a pivotal role, is currently available for streaming on Sun NXT. The Venu directorial, scripted by renowned writer Unni R, can also be watched on the popular platforms OTTplay Premium and Amazon Prime Video (only if you are an international viewer). The psychological drama is only streaming in Malayalam language, on all the platforms.

For the uninitiated, Mammootty decided to team up with cinematographer-director Venu and writer Unni R, during a disappointing phase of his acting career. The megastar, who have been delivering back-to-back underwhelming films, stunned the audiences with his subtle yet layered portrayal of CK Raghavan, a prisoner serving lifetime imprisonment for murdering his wife, and the daughter of his employer.

The movie revolves around how a jail visit of Anjali Arakkal, a fiercely ambitious journalist (Aparna Gopinath), changes Raghvan’s seemily peaceful life upside down. Prithviraj Sukumaran made a cameo appearance in the film, which features a massive star cast including Nedumudi Venu, Renji Panicker, Joy Mathew, Minon, Prathap Pothen, Kochu Preman, VK Sreeraman, Saiju Kurup, Sudheesh, Santhosh Keezhattoor, and others in pivotal roles.
Bijibal composed the music score for Munnariyippu. Director Venu himself penned the story, and handled the cinematography. Beena Paul handled the editing. The Mammootty starrer is bankrolled by director Ranjith, under his home banner Gold Coin Motion Pictures.
