Munna Bhai 3: Arshad Warsi opens up about possibilities of film with Sanjay Dutt; says fans deserve ‘closure’

Rajkumar Hirani’s Munna Bhai M.B.B.S. starring Sanjay Dutt and Arshad Warsi, was a blockbuster hit following its release in 2003. The sequel, Lage Raho Munna Bhai, where the two reprised their roles as Munna Bhai and Circuit, was also a massive hit in 2006. Fans have long been waiting for a third part in the hit franchise, and actor Arshad Warsi has now opened up about its possibilities.

Talking to Indian Express, Warsi said that Munna Bhai M.B.B.S resurrected his career, after not getting a movie in three or four years. Talking about the third movie, he said, “We have been waiting for 16 years since Lage Raho Munna Bhai. Honestly, I don’t think Part 3 will happen. I wish it would, that we could have a proper closure. We owe that much to the audience, but it’s been too long."

But Warsi added that a creative person feels claustrophobic if he is asked to do the same things over and over again and as an actor, he wants to move on. He further added that Rajkumar Hirani might also want to move on to different things and that for a director, each movie takes years to make.

Starring Sanjay Dutt in the lead as Munna Bhai and Warsi as his sidekick Circuit, the movie walked into Indian pop culture, also immortalising their characters in Bollywood. Following the massive success of the movie, the sequel was also received with open arms by the viewers.

There were reports of a third movie a few times, with the character headed to the US, but there was never anything concrete. Hirani’s first movie was also remade into Tamil, Telugu and Kannada, starring Kamal Haasan, Chiranjeevi and Upendra in the lead roles, respectively.

Meanwhile, Warsi was recently seen in a segment in Amazon Prime Video’s Modern Love: Mumbai and Akshay Kumar’s Bachchhan Paandey.
