Director Aditya Sarpotdar reflects on Munjya's success

Earlier, in an interview with India Today, Sarpotdar spoke about how he sees the success of Munjya. The filmmaker shared that for them, there are two or three main points to remember. To start, it's a completely new film, and this is not one of those generic Bollywood flicks that have come out recently. It deviates from the norm and appears novel and original. The public enjoys films that mix horror and comedy, and this genre certainly fits the bill. He doesn't believe any horror comedy has been successful in theatres since Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2; that's a pretty big gap. According to him, people also don't view all of the content available on OTT.

Sarpotdar added that the fact that they haven't watered down the story or narrative with trade logic—such as "you need to have an x number of songs" or "you need to have a very popular narrative rather than a regional one"—has been a huge boon to their success. They use a local language, have local people, use local casting, and have a deeply rooted tale. That being said, it is far from conventional and certainly not what one would call "industry-like."

Munjya also stars Mona Singh in a pivotal role.
