The Mumbai Police arrested a man named Vijay Das in the Thane West area of Maharashtra in connection with the stabbing case involving Saif Ali Khan, according to officials in the early hours of Sunday. The Kasarvadavali police and DCP Zone-6 Navnath Dhavale's squad jointly made the arrests at a work camp behind the TCS Call Centre in Hiranandani Estate, Thane West, close to the metro construction site.

When the robber broke into his Bandra home early on Thursday, Saif struggled with him and received six stab wounds. After the assailant fled, his son, Ibrahim Ali Khan, took him to Mumbai's Lilavati Hospital, where the actor underwent a series of surgeries. The reportedly safe Saif is now resting at a hospital.

Background of the suspect

The main suspect, Vijay Das, has worked as a waiter in Mumbai in the past. Following his arrest, the Mumbai crime department announced that a court will remand him later on Sunday. The Mumbai Police named the accused as Vijay Das, Bijoy Das, and Mohammad Iliyas, according to news agency ANI.

Security footage from the Satguru Sharan building, where Saif Ali Khan and his family live, captured the assailant. According to DCP Zone-9 Dikshit Gedam, the assailant gained access to Saif's apartment on the 12th floor by means of the stairway.

Eyewitness account from domestic staff

Eliyamma Philips, also known as Lima, was a member of Saif Ali Khan's domestic staff; she was there when the crime occurred and was the first to recognise the suspect. She engaged in a physical altercation with the suspect in an attempt to stop him, which resulted in injuries to her hand. After Lima screamed, Saif Ali Khan bolted from his room in a state of panic. In the midst of their conflict, he slashed the actor roughly six times with a sharp knife. After this, the assailant ran away. Lima had supplied the Mumbai Police with a description of the assailant as a tall, lean man in his late 30s with a dark complexion, standing at approximately 5 feet 5 inches.

Surveillance footage captured the suspect, who was wearing a blue shirt, purchasing headphones at a Dadar store nearly six hours after the incident. His previous sightings include the Bandra railway station, when he presumably boarded a train.

Statements from Kareena Kapoor Khan

The culprit became "very aggressive" during his altercation with Saif and stabbed the actor multiple times, according to Kareena Kapoor Khan. Nevertheless, according to her, he refrained from touching any of the displayed jewellery.

During the altercation at his residence, Saif suffered serious injuries. The actor came into Lilavati Hospital with a knife stuck in his spine, and doctors there also discovered that spinal fluid was flowing from his body.

Medical update on Saif Ali Khan's recovery

Six injuries, including two serious wounds to his neck and left hand, led to Saif's hospitalisation. After undergoing numerous procedures, the hospital declared him "out of danger." The ICU is now closely monitoring him.

Hospital COO Dr. Niraj Uttamani told the media on Friday that they have moved Saif to a special room, and he is making a full recovery. Every single day, he beams with joy. Actually, a discharge is scheduled for the following two or three days, he said.

Doctors have praised Saif's bravery and assured him that they have restricted visitors to ensure he gets enough sleep.
