Mumbai Diaries 26/11: Konkona Sen Sharma about her character in thriller series and future projects

Konkona Sen Sharma who acclaimed global fame with her role in Mr & Mrs Iyer rubbished the news of a sequel for her directorial Death in the Gunj

Konkona Sen Sharma was always seen taking on bold roles and roles, which have “substance”, as per her own words. But in the Mumbai Diaries 26/11, an Amazon web series, which premiered on September 9, she could be seen as a naive and dependent Chitra Das. In a talk with The Freepress Journal, the actress revealed why she went against her beliefs and took on the role.

“We perceive strength is about someone who is loud, and consider that as an authority. In the middle of the crisis, she fixates on someone who has no one. Her vulnerability then turns into compassion, and she feels comfort in healing others,” says Konkana. As mentioned above, the actress plays Chitra Das, the Social Services Director of the Bombay General Hospital, the setting of the series. The series narrates the harrowing night of the terrorist attack of 2008 and how the frontier workers like nurses, doctors and medical attendants rose up to the situation and showed extraordinary bravery in handling the situation. The series was described as a “tribute to the people of Mumbai” who were active in rejuvenating the shocked city and its residents.

The actress also quashed the rumours about a sequel of her superhit movie Death in the Gunj which she wrote and directed. The actress revealed that the central character Shutu, played by Vikrant Massey, dies, so there should be no question about a sequel. She added that although she may decide to direct movies in the future, she wants to keep acting for now.

The actress is currently waiting for the release of her movie The Rapist, in which she will be seen alongside Arjun Rampal. The movie is directed by her mother and acclaimed writer/director Aparna Sen. She is also shooting for an untitled project in Vagamon in Kerala.
