Mukesh Khanna on Ranbir Kapoor playing Lord Ram in Ramayana.
Veteran actor Mukesh Khanna has hit the headlines again! This time, he has sparked controversy again with his statement about Ranbir Kapoor. In a recent interview, Khanna was asked about Ranbir playing the role of Lord Ram in Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayana. The senior actor hoped that Kapoor's negative personality in Animal doesn't affect his upcoming project. Khanna feels that the actor who plays Lord Ram must embody him.
In an interview with Mid-Day, Mukesh Khanna initially seemed hesitant to share his thoughts about Ranbir playing Lord Ram in Ramayana. The senior actor refrained from talking about it as he felt people would accuse of him commenting about everyone and everything.

"I’m not rude, but I speak my mind. If they’re making a Ramayana, comparisons with Arun Govil will be inevitable. What Arun Govil did with the role has become the gold standard. All I can say is that whoever plays Ram must embody Ram; he shouldn’t look like Raavan. In their real life, if they are a lampat chhichhora (lewd hooligan), then it will show on screen," said Mukesh.
The veteran actor added that if someone is playing Lord Ram, they are not allowed to 'party and drink'. He further mentioned that Prabhas wasn't accepted as Lord Ram by the audience despite being a huge star. "The actor playing Ram now is the beacon of the Kapoor family. He’s a fine actor… But I will look at his face, and he should look like Ram," he added.
Meanwhile, Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayana will feature Sai Pallavi as Goddess Sita, and Ravi Dubey as Lord Laxman. On the other hand, Sunny Deol will be seen as Lord Hanuman. The star cast of the film includes Arun Govil and Sunny Deol. The first part of Ramayana will be released on Diwali 2026. As far as Ramayana Part 2 is concerned, it will hit the big screen on Diwali 2027.
