Seasoned MSNBC anchor Nicolle Wallace and star reporter of New York Times Michael S. Schmidt welcomed their first baby together, a daughter. Wallace also has a son Liam, with her ex-husband Mark Wallace. The Deadline: White House anchor announced the news in a quirky manner, by calling up her show, which is currently being hosted by Alicia Menendez. Wallace admitted that though many fans had already speculated the reason behind her absence, she had not checked her phone for a week and was amazed by all the theories.

On call, Nicolle Wallace revealed her daughter’s name as well, “Her name is Isabella Sloane Schmidt, and Mike and Liam and I are all smitten with her. Our dogs are still rendering judgement. But we were able to keep it a secret, obviously, because I wasn’t pregnant, but I never meant to keep it secret from our beloved viewers. I am so happy to share our happy news today.”

When inquired by Menendez how it feels to be a mum again, Wallace admitted that there are both pros and cons to becoming a mother at 51. She recalled being up all night yesterday and thinking, “wow, yeah, this is what 3.45 a.m. looks like,” as it is not a time frequented by her anymore. But she could not help but be thankful for this blessing, that is, her “beautiful family.”

She also proudly asserted that older brother Liam may be 11 but has been far calmer and better at taking care of his baby sister than most even double his age. “He just has a knack for the sway and the ‘shh’, you know, all the things that you do no matter where you are when you have a baby.”

As of now, Nicolle Wallace is on maternity leave, but she has no plans of leaving the show. She complimented Menendez for her exquisite handling of the role and said, “I am so lucky and so grateful that you are there helming these hours while I take a couple of months to hang out with Izzy.”
