Almost every Hindi film hero has played an upright, no-nonsense cop on screen at some point in their career. Leading ladies, on the other hand, have had a hard time finding work. Mrunal Thakur is thrilled to be wearing the khaki uniform for Gumraah

During an interaction with Mid Day, she explained that every actor's desire is to be connected with a powerful and fearsome character. The physique of the character is quite different; there's a specific posture and body language that she is working on.

The official remake of the Tamil smash Thadam (2019), which also stars Aditya Roy Kapur, features Thakur as a cop investigating a murder case in which two lookalikes are the key suspects. Vardhan Ketkar's directorial debut began filming late last year, with the second schedule wrapping just a few months ago.

Thakur says she spent a lot of time preparing for the job, from adopting a confident policewoman's walk to including strength training in her fitness routine to become action-ready.

The actor shared that a female cop must establish her footing in a police station and handle cases while avoiding intimidation. In a man's world, she is a woman. It's fascinating to delve into that aspect of her personality. Thakur went to a nearby police station to observe what it's like for women to work there. They have a strong sense of self-assurance and are unusually alert. She wanted to study and imbibe these characteristics. In order to utter the lines more forcefully, the actor had to alter her dialogue delivery. Her crew members continuously told her that she couldn't be "cute."

Unlike her previous films, Toofaan (2021) and Jersey in which she portrayed the romantic interest of the star guy, Gumraah would feature Thakur in a fight with Kapur's character. When asked if she considered this a subversion of tropes, she agreed and said that in such films, the conflict has always been between men. The actor is glad to be on the other side now. For a change, her character is not nice, friendly, or polite. To take on this position, Thakur had to break free from her conditioning.
