Mrunal will be seen next in Sita Ramam with Dulquer Salmaan and also in Pippa with Ishaan Khatter.
Mrunal Thakur, who was most recently seen in Gowtam Tinnanuri's Hindi remake of Telugu sports drama Jersey with Shahid Kapoor, opened up about her movie’s box office performance post release.
The movie arrived in cinemas on April 22 only to face heavy competition from Yash’s KGF: Chapter 2, which is still reigning the Indian box office. According to Bollywood Hungama, as a result, Jersey was only able to garner Rs 17.20 crore at the domestic box office.
Mrunal expressed her regret at the film’s low box office collection in an interview with ETimes. She said, “It is disappointing, no doubt. But there have been many external reasons. Lekin haan (Yes), one does tend to feel low. Anyway, we will work harder next time. One more reason can be that the South version has been available on YouTube.”
The actor also spoke about how after the back-to-back success of movies like Pushpa: The Rise KGF2 and RRR, she’s unable to decipher what exactly the audience want.
In spite of the box office performance, Jersey was praised for the cast’s performances, especially Shahid as a cricketer in the second innings of his career, Gowtam’s direction, and the emotionality of the story.
“Sometimes all you need is a little drama, and Shahid Kapoor's Jersey is here to provide it. It’s not a straight-up cricket movie, so temper your expectations and enjoy the movie,” writes Aishwarya Vasudevan in her review for OTTplay.
