Mrs. American Pie: Kristen Wiig, Laura Dern to star in the new Apple TV Plus comedy

Kristen Wiig is gearing up to bring her comedic talent to the silver screen yet again. It was announced that the actor has come on board for a new comedy series for Apple TV Plus. Titled Mrs. American Pie, the series will see her share the screen with Academy Award winner Laura Dern.

According to a report by The Hollywood Reporter, the series is created by Abe Sylvia, who has worked on popular shows such as Dead To Me. Sylvia will also executive produce the upcoming series along with Dern. The series will have Tate Taylor, known for helming the 2011 drama The Help, as the director. The series will be produced by Apple Studios.

Mrs. American Pie is based on the novel of the same name, written by Juliet McDaniel. Set in 1970s America, the show will revolve around the story of Maxine Simmons, portrayed by Wiig, a woman who dreams of being a part of high society circles at Palm Beach. As the woman jumps through hoops to fulfill her goal, the series tries to tackle themes related to classism, by exploring the lengths people will go through to be a part of so-called high society. The series will consist of ten episodes.

The project will mark Wiig’s first Apple series. The actress had earlier been roped in to appear in the studios’ upcoming series You Think It, I’ll Say It, produced by Reese Witherspoon, but had to drop out due to scheduling clashes. She was last seen in A Boy Called Christmas. Dern, on the other hand, is currently awaiting the release of her films Jurassic World: Dominion and The Son.
