Mr Pregnant, in which former Bigg Boss Telugu contestant Syed Sohel Ryan (Sohel) plays the titular role, completed its shoot long time ago, but took a while for it see the light of the day in theatres. Uma Maheshwara Ugra Roopasya girl Roopa Koduvayur was cast as the female lead in the film. Appi Reddy, Ravi Reddy Sajjala and Venkat Annapareddy produced the film under Mic Movies.

After a long wait, the film released in theatres on August 18. The drama opened to mixed responses from viewers and had a limited run in theatres. Nearly seven weeks after its theatrical release, Mr Pregnant is now out on OTT. Not one but two leading streaming platforms aha and Amazon Prime Video acquired its post-theatrical digital rights and decided to premiere the film on October 6, Friday.
Suhasini Maniratham, Raja Ravindra, Brahmaji, Ali, Harsha, Abhishek Reddy Bobbala, Swapnika played other pivotal roles in the film which had story, screenplay and direction by Srinivas Vinjanampati. The makers, with Mr Pregnant, tried to make an effort to understand what it means for a man to be in the shoes of a woman during pregnancy. The novel premise drew praise from a few segments of audiences.
The story centres on a youngster Gautam (Syed Sohel), an orphan who is not keen on marrying and is reluctant about having kids, thanks to his dark past. Even while Mahi (Roopa Koduvayur) is in love with him, he takes time to say yes to her. He agrees to tie the knot, albeit with a condition - they won’t have kids in the future. However, all hell breaks loose Gautam decides to conceive in the place of Mahi.
The writer-director mentioned that Mr Pregnant is based on incidents in his personal life, when his wife birthed a premature baby. The former was particularly affected by the many challenges his wife faced while dealing with the infant. At the same time, he had heard of a story of a male pregnant in the US, eventually motivating him to pen a script on similar lines. Shravan Bharadwaj is the music director of Mr Pregnant.
