The actress essays the role of the antagonist, Junoon, in the film.
Brahmastra has fans excited for a number of reasons. In addition to a star studded lead cast, the reports of Shah Rukh Khan’s cameo appearance in the film has also gotten fans impatient for the film’s release. The makers, however, have been tight lipped about Khan’s involvement in the film. In a big sigh of relief for fans, Mouni Roy recently confirmed that Khan is indeed a part of the film in a guest role.
In conversation with Bollywood Hungama, Roy spoke of how she came to be a part of the film. She revealed that she had gotten the call to be a part of the film while she was working on Akshay Kumar’s Gold in London. She had initially been asked to do a ‘special appearance’ in the film, which also stars Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Amitabh Bachchan and Nagarjuna.
She recalled her first meeting with Mukerji, which was initially supposed to be about 10 minutes long. But it had ended up being over three hours long, in which the director spoke of how he envisioned the world of Brahmastra. Roy said she’d been drawn to the concept almost immediately, and spoke of her journey from being considered for a special appearance in the film, to landing a role as its main antagonist.
Calling the part one of the most challenging roles she has ever done, Roy said that Ayan had beautifully woven together stories from the country in the upcoming fantasy film. Roy confirmed Khan’s part in the film by saying “Working with Ranbir, Alia, Bachchan sir, Nagarjuna sir, Shah Rukh sir has also played a guest appearance in it… it made so much of a difference, in terms of the experience that I gained, the things that I’ve learnt. Just to be a part of this world, I feel like it is a privilege”.
Brahmastra will be released in theatres on September 9.
