Malayalam films undoubtedly left a mark in Indian cinema in 2024 with some of the best movies such as the Manjummel Boys, Premalu and  Aavesham that reached a far wider audience, thanks to the OTT platforms. But some of the notable movies that released in theatres are yet to make their way to the OTT space. So, when 2025 dawns, we expect to see Basil Joseph and Nazriya Nazim-starrer Sookshmadarshini and the young star Naslen’s I Am Kathalan on various OTT platforms. Let’s take a look at the Malayalam movies set to arrive on Hotstar, Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and Sony LIV in January 2025.

Malayalam movies on Hotstar, Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Sony LIV

Sookshmadarshini

Nazriya Nazim totally justified her absence from the Malayalam silver screen for four years with her stellar performance in Sookshmadarshini. She joined hands with Basil Joseph for this black comedy mystery thriller film that impressed audiences with its quirky plot and impressive performances. The plot revolves around Priyadarshini who is very curious about Manuel and his mother who move into their neighbourhood. The film enjoyed a good run at the box office and is expected to land on Zee5 in January 2025, though an official release date is yet to be announced.

I Am Kathalan

With its breezy romantic plot and charismatic leads, Naslen and Mamitha Baiju’s Premalu tasted success beyond the borders of Kerala. So, another movie by Naslen with Premalu director Girish A D was needless to say much-anticipated. I Am Kathalan follows Vishnu who is humiliated by his girlfriend’s father and vows revenge. Though I Am Kathalan did not match up to the success of Pramalu, the techno crime thriller movie is worth a watch. The movie will be available on Manorama Max soon, but the platform is yet to officially confirm the date.

Pani

Joju George, who has an interesting filmography in Malayalam, upped his game by venturing into direction with Pani and acing the test like a pro. The film follows two youths as they enter the criminal world in Thrissur, but their paths cross with that of Giri. Joju George plays Giri in this relentless action thriller, as he sets out for revenge. The film is expected to land on SonyLiv but the release date is yet to be announced.

Hello Mummy

Even as Stree 2, Munjya and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 brought spooky horror and laughs to the Hindi cinema halls, Malayalam too contributed with Hello Mummy. Starring Sharafudheen and Aishwarya Lekshmi, the film revolves around Boney who wants to marry Steffy. But first, he has to impress Stepphy's mother, but the horrific twist is she passed away more than two decades ago. The horror-comedy, released in theatres in November 2024, and is expected to land on OTT in January 2025.

Anand Sreebala

Arjun Ashokan headlines this mystery thriller film, which is based on a real incident in Kerala . The film follows Anand Sreebala as he sets out to probe the death of Merin and bring justice to the young law student. The film also features Sangita Madhavan Nair, who is best known for her performance in Sreenivasan's Chinthavishtayaya Shyamala that even fetched her a state award. Anand Sreebala failed to create any waves when it released in theatres in November and we need to see how it will perform in the OTT space where it is expected to land soon.
