Moorane Krishnappa, the latest film by director Naveen Narayanaghatta of Akira and Relax Satya fame, released in theatres on May 24. A comedy with ample laughs, the film opened to positive reviews, which, sources, say, did not translate into commensurate footfalls in theatres though. The film led by Rangayana Raghu and Sampath Maitreya will soon be headed to OTT, we are told. Moorane Krishnappa will be on Amazon Prime Video, as the makers have managed a pay-per-view deal. A streaming date is yet to be determined, but in all probability, the film will be on the platform after the 30-day mark.

Moorane Krishnappa movie review: Rangayana Raghu, Sampath Maitreya lead rib-tickling comedy with more highs than lows

Moorane Krishnappa is set in a small village near Anekal, where Rangayana Raghu’s Veeranna is the gram panchayat president. Up for re-election, Veeranna figures that the easiest way to pocket his vote bank is by consecrating a new temple in their village, and get a celebrity to inaugurate the same. When the designated chief guest becomes unavailable, Veeranna and the rest of the village, turn to local school master Krishnappa (Sampath Maitreya), who has a pal in Bengaluru, with the right connections to bring the chief minister to do the honours. What Krishnappa does when this plan goes awry is what the film is about.

Rangayana Raghu’s performance as Veeranna is quite outstanding and comes close on the heels of his film Shakhahaari, which was also massive departure from his routine father/villain roles in Kannada cinema. Moorane Krishnappa, which also stars Tukali Santhosh, Ugram Manju, Sripriya, among others, was one of several Kannada films that released on May 24, but was among the better ones.

Raghu’s Shakhahaari is also on Amazon Prime Video, so it may be a good time to plan a binge-watch session, once Moorane Krishnappa also becomes available. Sampath, meanwhile, was last seen in Ravike Prasanga, which is on the plaform, albeit on the store only.
