Indian-origin Hollywood actor Dev Patel is a powerhouse of performance, who carved a niche for himself after starring in films such as Slumdog Millionaire and The Lion. Dev Patel has now turned director, producer and writer with his new venture, Monkey Man, the screening of which was held recently, that witnessed Dev trying his best to hold back his tears.

Dev Patel overwhelmed by standing ovation

In a video shared by Variety on their X handle, Dev is seen arriving on the stage, while the credits were rolling on the screen. The standing ovation and constant applause overwhelmed the actor who was spotted trying his best to hold back his tears. In the video, Dev looks dapper in a brown jacket, white t-shirt and black pants.

The video soon grabbed the attention of the audience and acknowledged the overwhelming response Dev received for his debut directorial film. One social media user wrote, “Nice! He's feeling very overwhelmed, and his heart melts at receiving a standing ovation!”, while another said, “Now that Dune 2 is out, Monkey Man is my most anticipated film. It looks so good. Been a long time fan of Dev Patel. This film looks exciting. Can’t wait.”

Trailer and star cast

The trailer of the film, was released last month, showcased the life of the central character and the grief he goes through after the loss of his mother. The young adult then takes inspiration from Lord Hanuman to avenge his mother’s death and fight the evil by donning a monkey’s mask.

The film sheds light on the power struggle and class differences that are evident in Indian society. Filled with dramatic action sequences against the background of peppy music, the film promises to be a drama thriller that is sure to keep you on the edge of your seats. Directed by Dev Patel, the film stars Sobhita Dhulipala, Sharlto Copley, Pitobash, Vipin Sharma, Sikandar Kher and Makarand Deshpande in pivotal roles. It will hit the theatres on April 14.-
