The MonsterVerse has several badass Titans, good and bad, which could make it to the show's multi-decade timeline
The latest deep dive into the MonsterVerse, and, the mysterious organization Monarch, the AppleTV+ show Monarch: Legacy of Monsters’ multi-generational storyline ensures that the showrunners can toy with bringing several fallen and existing Titans into the narrative. Here’s a look at some of the monsters – good and bad – that fans would like to see in action with or against Godzilla.
Methuselah
Seen briefly in 2019’s Godzilla: King of the Monsters, Methuselah is a gigantic quadrupedal creature with a small jagged mountain and plant life such as trees grow its back. Methuselah’s large draconic skull has large curled horns, white eyes with no pupils, and a mouth with large, razor-sharp teeth. He is shown as a Titan that initially is under the sway of King Ghidorah, but later submits to the Alpha, Godzilla.
Warbats
These aggressive serpentine creatures with an expansive wing span and 14-foot long fangs, were seen in 2021’s Godzilla vs Kong, hunting in pairs and using their body to constrict their prey. They didn’t get much screen time in the film, but turned out to be worthy opponents to the massive Ape in Hollow Earth, almost getting the better of him. It would be interesting to see them in action against the King of Monsters.
Mothra
The Queen of Monsters, a gigantic moth with healing powers, may have sacrificed herself in Godzilla: King of Monsters, giving Godzilla the energy boost he needed to destroy Ghidorah. One of the most benevolent Titans, Mothra remained loyal to Godzilla, even when Ghidorah took up the position of alpha.
Rodan
A giant bird of prey, Rodan was one of Godzilla’s opponents in Godzilla: King of Monsters, his allegiance to Ghidorah based on the fact that he was alpha at the time. Emerging from a volcano, Rodan is able to not only generate massive amounts of heat that he uses to severely burn Mothra during their showdown. A largely neutral Titan, Rodan serves whichever Titan becomes alpha. After Ghidorah’s death, Rodan was the first to accept Godzilla’s leadership and bows to him.
Skullcrawlers
This giant amphibian superspecies, seen in 2017’s Kong: Skull Island, are said to be responsible for the near extinction of his entire species, and causing the death of is parents. These Titan lizards live underground and represent the darker aspects of Skull Island. Fearless and with a high degree of intelligence, they are determined when chasing down a prey. Kong’s killed quite a few that he came across, but there should be some still lurking around.
MUTOs
Massive Unidentified Terrestrial Organisms (MUTO) were the primary foes of Godzilla in the 2014 film. Parasites that were intent on preying on Godzilla, for the furtherance of their kind, the two MUTOs almost got the better of the King of Monsters, making them formidable foes.
Monarch: Legacy of Monsters began streaming on AppleTV+ on November 17 with a two episode drop. Weekly episodes will continue until January 12, 2024.
