Mohanlal and Sreenivasan, the iconic actor-writer duo of Malayalam cinema, teamed up in 2005 for the blockbuster satirical comedy film, Udayananu Tharam. The movie, which marked the directorial debut of popular filmmaker Rosshan Andrrews, emerged as a major critical and commercial success. Mohanlal played the role of Udayabanu, a struggling filmmaker in the film, which features Sreenivasan as superstar Saroj Kumar. Udayananu Tharam is reportedly gearing up for a grand re-release, in February 2025.
If the latest updates are to be believed, the iconic Mohanlal starrer is gearing up for a grand re-release, in 4K format. The recent reports suggest that the Rosshan Andrrews directorial is set to hit the big screens in February 2025, on the special occasion of the film’s 20th release anniversary. The crew of Udayananu Tharam is reportedly busy with the technical works of the 4K version. A major update on the Udayananu Tharam re-release date is expected to be out, very soon.

Mohanlal played the role of a senior associate filmmaker named Udayabanu, who struggles to make his debut directorial venture, in the Rosshan Andrrews directorial. Sreenivasan, on the other hand, played the role of Rajappan, who cheats Udayan to become a superstar and adapts the screen name Saroj Kumar, in the film. Meena appeared as Madhumati, the popular actress and wife of Udayabanu in the film, which is scripted by Sreenivasan, himself.
Udayananu Tharam features a massive star cast, including Jagathy Sreekumar, Mukesh, Salim Kumar, Cochin Haneefa, AK Lohithadas, Janardhanan, Indrans, Anand, Indrans, TP Madhavan, Bhavana, and others in the supporting roles. S Kumar is the director of photography. Ranjan Abraham handled the editing. Deepak Dev composed the songs for the film and Ouseppachan composed the background score. The blockbuster film produced by C Karunakaran, under the banner Perfect Group, is now available for streaming on Manorama Max and OTT Play Premium.
