Mohanlal-starrer Neru has beaten Mammootty's Kannur Squad record and is now among the top 10 highest grossing films in Kerala. As it is entering its fourth week in theatres, the film—which is earning fantastic reviews from viewers—has collected over Rs 38 crore. Mohanlal's Lucifer and Pulimurugan are also among the list of highest grossers in Kerala.

Neru, the highly anticipated emotional courtroom drama that stars Mohanlal in the lead role, has minted a total of ₹3 crore across India on its opening day. This movie is the actor’s fifth collaboration with director Jeethu Joseph.

In the first week, the theatres in Kerala had arranged for additional shows of Neru, despite big releases such as Prabhas’ Salaar and Shah Rukh Khan’s Dunki on the same day. On its first day, the courtroom drama movie had a remarkable 54.37% Malayalam occupancy.

For his outstanding performance as Adv Vijayamohanan, a senior lawyer who resumes his career after a hiatus, Mohanlal has been getting excellent feedback. But it was Anaswara Rajan, who played the blind sculptor Sara in Neru, who stunned the audience with her outstanding performance. Viewers were drawn to Neru by the trailer and the pre-release event that the cast and crew attended.

A stellar star cast, including Priya Mani, Siddique, Jagadish, K B Ganesh Kumar, Anaswara Rajan, Sree Dhanya, Kalesh Ramanand, Nandu, and Santhi Mayadevi, co-stars in the courtroom drama with Mohanlal. The film is produced by Antony Perumbavoor under the banner of Aashirvad Cinemas. Neru will be streaming on Disney+ Hotstar after running on the big screen.

Plagarism and other allegations against Neru

The film is receiving mixed reactions over its similarities to a 1995 American crime thriller. A video is out on social media showing scenes from these two films.

A plagiarism claim was also made against the courtroom drama just a few days before it opened in theatres on December 21. The petitioner, Deepu K Unni, claimed that after writing the screenplay for the movie, he talked with Jeethu and Santhi about it. He continued by saying that he was compelled to give the two copies of his script. Nevertheless, the Kerala High Court refused to delay the movie's release in a decision on December 17.
