Mohanlal's L2 Empuraan character poster promises a mega stylish thriller, gears up for release in 5 languages

The makers of Lucifer's second instalment Empuraan unveiled Mohanlal's look as Khureshi Abraam from Prithviraj Sukumaran's directorial on the superstar's birthday

Make way for Khureshi Abraam! Mohanlal’s character poster from Prithviraj Sukumaran’s L2: Empuraan, the second instalment of the blockbuster Lucifer, promises a stylish thriller that has all the trappings of a pan-Indian action thriller.

The makers unveiled Mohanlal’s look as Khureshi Abraam from the film on the superstar’s birthday on Tuesday and it has already stoked the excitement for the actor’s fans in particular, if not for everyone else. While the previous movie had a tail-end portion featuring Mohanlal as Khureshi Abraam, most of the 2019 film had him playing a politician named Stephen Nedumpally. Empuraan, however, will reportedly show portions of Stephen’s life as Khureshi Abraam as well as have sequences in the current timeline.

Makers reveal Khuresh Abraam's poster from L2 Empuraan

The poster also drew similarities to Rajinikanth’s Jailer in terms of the tone, but eagle-eyed fans were quick to spot that for Lucifer, the makers had revealed a similar poster with Mohanlal as Stephen Nedumpally, dressed in a white shirt and mundu, walking with hundreds of his supporters to the Secretariat. In contrast, Khureshi Abraam is dressed in black - a take on the dark side of Mohanlal’s character.

Tovino Thomas, Manju Warrier, Nandu and Saniya Iyappan will be reprising their roles from the movie, which is currently being shot in Thiruvananthapuram. A leaked video from the sets revealed a sequence featuring Manju’s character at the National Investigation Agency office and also hinted the movie will have scenes featuring huge crowds, just like Lucifer.

L2 Empuraan release date

The team has already shot portions of the movie in Ladakh, Chennai and Kottayam, along with portions in the US and UK. After the shoot in Kerala wraps up, the team will head to Gujarat and then to the UAE to wrap up the production. L2 Empuraan is currently expected to release in theatres in 2025.

Meanwhile, along with the poster, the makers also revealed its release plans. The film will hit theatres in five languages - Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Hindi. Considering that Malayalam cinema has been having a golden run, L2 Empuraan could make a killing at the global box office and maybe even be the first film to breach the Rs 500 crore barrier.
