The movie, which is scripted by Pulimurugan scribe Udayakrishna, could be Mohanlal’s first theatrical release after the pandemic
After all the hullabaloo surrounding the release platform of Mohanlal’s Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham, we know for certain that the superstar’s Aaraattu will be a theatrical release and that too next year.
Director B Unnikrishnan, who had earlier said that he will take a call on the film’s release date in November, has gone ahead and announced that Aaraattu, which is scripted by Pulimurugan scribe Udayakrishna, will hit theatres on February 10, 2022.
In an interview with OTTplay earlier this week, the filmmaker had told us, “Aaraattu will be at theatrical release without doubt. If Marakkar is heading for an OTT release, Aaraattu will be the next biggest Malayalam release because it’s made on a much bigger budget than Kurup.”
It’s a matter of celebration for theatre owners across that State who believe that only a superstar-driven film can bring back the audience to the theatres. Earlier this month, Dulquer Salmaan had announced that his movie Kurup will hit theatres on November 12.
Film exhibitors will be eagerly watching to see the reception of the film. “Kurup’s release is crucial because people should come back to theatres. In Tamil Nadu, despite there being multiple soft openings, theatres got a shot in the arm after Sivakarthikeyan’s Doctor released. Similarly, Sudeep’s Kottigobba 3 was a game-changer in Kannada. So, when a much-anticipated, star-driven movie gets the kind of response that is expected, the industry will be back on wheels,” said B Unnikrishnan, in an interview with us.
Aaraattu, which is shot on a budget exceeding Rs 30crore, has Mohanlal playing a real-estate tycoon. The film also has Kannada actress Shraddha Srinath, Nedumudi Venu, Renji Panicker, Siddique, Sampath Raj and Saikumar in pivotal roles. The movie also has a cameo by music director AR Rahman.
