Malayalam celebs including Dulquer Salmaan and Namitha Pramod were the first to join Threads, Meta’s new app
Mollywood superstars Mohanlal and Dulquer Salmaan are usually the first to hop on a digital trend, and not surprisingly, they were also the initial few celebs to sign up on Meta’s Twitter rival, Threads – a text-based sharing platform. Threads became the fastest app to have 100 million users, surpassing ChatGPT’s record last year.
Though it has been less than a week since the platform has launched, a select group of Malayalam celebs have already signed in and started using the app’s features to promote their movies or even interact with fans and entertain personal queries.
With Threads being an extension of Instagram, it was only a matter of days before some of the most-followed Mollywood celebs from the platform began using it. Actress and social media influencer Ahaana Krishna, who already has 129k followers, on her Threads account kickstarted her account right after it was launched and has been using the app to engage in conversations with her followers.
“What do you enjoy doing the most while it rains? I would love to eat a very yummy chocolate cake,” the actress posted, before being flooded with replies. Since then, she had also asked her followers to list a #thread that changed their lives, while highlighting hers was when she realised she was not meant for engineering and had decided to pursue visual communication – “which contributes so much to the way I think and make content today”.
Parvathy Thiruvothu, much like Ahaana, has been one of the more active celebs on Threads, sharing her thoughts from her musings, photos as well as quotes. Her use of ‘prompts’ in most of her posts also reflect that she’s caught up with the AI chatbot trend.
Meanwhile, actor Nivin Pauly, who has about 85k followers, started his journey with the promotion of his upcoming movie Ramachandra Boss & Co, sharing the same posts that he did on his other social media accounts.
Tovino Thomas, who has 202k followers on Threads till now, began with posting his photo on the platform along with a post of Trisha’s casting from his new movie Identity as well as photos and captions from his award-winning moment along with Mammootty in Manchester, UK.
The two leading celebs – Mohanlal and Dulquer Salmaan – who had joined the platform, however, are yet to post anything. But that hardly affected their followers count – which is at 268k and 486k respectively.
