Mohanlal and Mammootty had recently shared ‘stage space’ for a show by the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists that will be telecast on Onam
The past week had enough for the fans of Malayalam superstars Mohanlal and Mammootty to celebrate. The duo, who have been meeting each other often post pandemic, recently shared ‘stage space’ for a show held by Association of Malayalam Movie Aritsts (AMMA) Mazhavil Manorama and had shared a few candid pics from the rehearsal sessions.
During the pandemic, AMMA had also announced that the two superstars along with close to 140 artistes from the industry will be sharing screen space in a movie that will be helmed by Priyadarshan and directed by TK Rajeev Kumar. However, since then, there has been no update regarding the project, which was billed as AMMA’s effort to release another film like Twenty: 20 that released in 2008 and featured all major stars including Suresh Gopi, Dileep, Jayaram and cameos by Prithviraj Sukumaran, Kunchacko Boban and Nayanthara.
Will Mammootty, Mohanlal share screen space with Dulquer Salmaan, Fahadh Faasil?
Recently, when OTTplay got in touch with AMMA official and actor Edavela Babu, he told us that the project might not materialise anytime soon. “That plan has somehow not worked out,” he said. “We couldn’t zero in on a great subject for such a movie. We had discussed several ideas and even scripts, but we couldn’t lock an idea that would be a level higher than Twenty-20.”
Babu also revealed that those in AMMA as well as the fans want to see all the major Malayalam actors be part of the film and the actors’ schedules post-pandemic proves to be detrimental to such a massive effort. “The kind of stars and also the situation of the industry are not as same as what it was back when we did Twenty: 20. So, for a movie like that to be made now, we also have to have a script that would make use of today’s stars. We don’t have that as of now,” he explains.
When and where to watch AMMA’s stage show?
Meanwhile, the stage show will be telecast on Mazhavil Manorama as part of its Onam programmes. The show can also be streamed on Manorama Max and OTTplay Premium in the last week of August.
