Mohanlal confirms Barroz release date, Malaikottai Vaaliban fans must wait

Barroz is an important and a very special film in Mohanlal's career as the fantasy drama marks his directorial debut.

In the last few days, the internet has been abuzz with rumours about Malayalam superstar Mohanlal's next release. Speculations were rife that Mohanlal's most-awaited movie Malaikottai Vaaliban will open in cinemas worldwide during the Christmas holiday. There were also reports about the distributors informing the theatre owners to prepare for the movie's arrival during the holiday season. The buzz created confusion among Malayalam movie fans as earlier it was announced Mohanlal's Barroz will hit the screens in December .

In a recent interview, Mohanlal cleared the air over his next release, putting all the speculations to rest. He has confirmed that Barroz will release in cinemas on December 21 in over 60 countries. This naturally means the release of Malaikottai Vaaliban will be delayed by at least a few months to give optimal breathing space for the two big movies at the box office.

Barroz is an important and very special film in Mohanlal's career. The fantasy drama marks his directorial debut and it has also been his passion project for a long time. And it's needless to say he will take extra measures to ensure the movie gets a big launch worldwide.

Barroz is a cinematic adaptation of filmmaker-writer Jijo Punnoose’s story of the same name. The fantasy drama tells the story of a mythical figure called Barroz, who has been guarding Vasco da Gama’s treasure for over 400 years, in anticipation of Gama's true successor.

Billed as a children’s fantasy drama, Barroz is expected to be a visual spectacle and it will be released in 3D.

Lijo Jose Pellissery has directed Malaikottai Vaaliban, which is now in post-production. Besides Mohanlal, the film also stars Danish Sait, Sonalee Kulkarni, Hareesh Peradi and Katha Nandi in pivotal roles.

The makers may release Malaikottai Vaaliban during the Vishu holiday next year.

Meanwhile, Mohanlal is basking in the massive success of Jailer , which stars Superstar Rajinikanth in the lead. Mohanlal's cameo appearance in the movie was a big hit, contributing significantly to the movie's historical run in Kerala and the Gulf region.
