Mohanlal fans have been gearing up for the release of the superstar’s ‘mass’ entertainer Aaraattu, and the film’s bookings have already earned the actor a unique record of have three movies that have crossed 200 fans shows on the first day.

The last Mohanlal film to achieve a record number of fans shows was Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham , which reportedly had over 500 screenings for fans. The December 2021 release, which marked Mohanlal’s first theatrical release since the pandemic, had shows starting as early as 12am.

Aaraattu, meanwhile, due to the pandemic restrictions would have comparatively fewer shows with the earliest show scheduled at 7.30am-8am in most centres. Last week, the movie’s director B Unnikrishnan had requested the Federation of Exhibitors United Organisation of Kerala (FEUOK) to guarantee a minimum of four shows daily in theatres with the movie running without a two-week holdover restriction. Considering the booking, the big centres already have close to 10 screenings for the Mohanlal film.

The movie, which is reportedly made on a budget exceeding Rs 30 Crore, has an ensemble cast featuring Shraddha Srinath, Ramachandra Raju, Nedumudi Venu, Sidhique, Dhruvan, Rachana Narayanankutty, Johny Antony and AR Rahman, who appears in a cameo as himself . Scripted by Pulimurugan fame Udaykrishna, Unnikrishnan had earlier told us that the movie is an all-out entertainer with lots of fun and action elements.

Like Marakkar, the upcoming movie will also be close to three hours long. The current runtime of Aaraattu is at 2h 47 minutes. The makers though say they are sure the audience would have a great time at the theatres through the film. “In fact, it was Lal sir who had suggested we do a festive kind of movie, especially because things have been grim during the pandemic,” Unnikrishnan told OTTplay in a recent interview.
