The superstar emphasised on the importance of 'relatable' and 'crowd-puller' films.
Mithun Chakraborty said that Bollywood needs to focus on mass entertainment. In a recent interview, he also said that Bollywood will soon present successful films and great box office numbers. The actor was in Kolkata to shoot Projapoti with Dev, Mamata Shankar, Koushani Mukherjee and others.
In an interview with Etimes, Mithun said that many of the recent south superhit films, like KGF 2, RRR and Pushpa, are similar to the masala films that he used to be part of in the ’80s and ’90s. He also said that the most important bit is that the films need to be crowd-pleasers. “Just see the films like RRR, Pushpa, or KGF 2. Why do they become such big hits? Because people can relate to the story and its mass appeal. I think these films are similar to those larger-than-life masala films I used to do in the ’80s and ’90s,” he said in the interview. He also mentioned the ‘amazing timing’ of the South superstars, including Yash, Ram charan, Jr NTR and Allu Arjun, to use their stardom.
Talking about Bollywood, Mithun said that it is high time to focus on mass entertainers. He said that the industry will soon learn from the previous mistakes. He further added that the industry needs to analyse what people really want to watch. “I think Bollywood will soon come out roaring with successful films with amazing box office numbers,” the actor said.
Talking about his contemporary actors' work in OTT, he said that he is willing to work more on OTTs if he gets suitable offers. Earlier, he worked in Amazon Prime’s Bestseller with Shruti Hassan, Gauahar Khan, Arjan Bajwa, Satyajeet Dubey, and Sonalee Kulkarni.
Mithun was shooting in Kolkata in Avijit Sen’s father-son family drama Projapoti in which he plays the father of Dev. It is also a project that brought Mamata Shankar and Mithun together after almost 50 years after Mrinal Sen’s Mrigayaa. The Kolkata part of the shooting, which was taking place in Salt Lake, has just got over.
