More than eight weeks after its theatrical debut, the Tamil action thriller Mission Chapter 1 is all set to make its streaming debut. Starring Arun Vijay in the lead role, the film is directed by AL Vijay, from a script penned by A. Mahadev.

When will Mission Chapter 1 release on OTT?

Mission Chapter 1 will make its debut on OTT on March 15. The movie will become available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video. Additionally, those living outside India can also watch this film on Simply South from the same date onwards.

What was the reason behind the delay in the release of Mission Chapter 1?

Bankrolled by Lyca Productions, Mission Chapter 1 took longer than expected to arrive on streaming platforms. However, not for a good reason. The film might have faced a struggle to land desirable streaming deals due to its poor performance at the box office.

In recent years, streaming platforms have become more selective when it comes to acquiring the streaming rights of movies before their theatrical release. According to prevailing industry practices, new films must first prove their merits at the box office to receive a profitable deal from OTT players. Movies that fail to garner critical acclaim or commercial success likely have a tough time securing streaming deals.

Mission Chapter 1 belongs to the latter category as it failed to achieve both commercial and critical success. Consequently, its producers, Lyca Productions, might have had difficulty selling it to streaming platforms.

Earlier, Arun Vijay clarified that he had no information about who held the streaming rights to Mission Chapter 1. According to him, SunNXT was in talks with Lyca Productions to acquire its OTT rights. However, circumstances may have changed following its theatrical release.
