Ankush Hazra’s production debut Mirza which features him and Oindrila Sen was released last week. There have been many talks regarding the depression in the market of Bengali commercial films. However, Ankush doesn’t pay heed to those. He appeared as outspoken after the release of his film. He invested money from his pocket on his dream project. He claimed that the film might not recover the money. However, he also confirmed that he will invest in the second and third chapters of Mirza.

There have been some negative comments about Mirza. Some YouTube channels rated the film one or one and a half stars. The script and acting were dubbed as ‘awful’. Ankush recently commented about this. He said, “There are many YouTubers in Bengal now who want money from our managers to give a positive review.” The question is, did some people give negative reviews to Mirza because they did not get the money?

Many people think that Ankush does not have a fanbase like Jeet or Dev and hence a film like Mirza will find it difficult to run. The general perception of Bengali commercial films is that the audience comes to the halls to watch the hero. Ankush admitted it. He said in an interview, “My poster is not garlanded after my films are released. I don’t have any fan clubs. There is no corporate booking for my films.”

But Mirza proved that action and twists like the South Indian films are possible in Bengali films also. No hero except Jeet thinks nowadays to make such films.

At the end of last week, Ankush gave an official statement and said that Mirza did a business of Rs 75 lakhs in the first week which is only 17% of the film’s budget. However, Ankush said that he was able to recover around 60% by selling the film’s digital and satellite rights.

On social media, Ankush candidly wrote, “I don’t hesitate to say that my investment will not be recovered from the theaters only. It is because Mirza is a big-budget film according to today’s market. But the audience gave me confidence and I am happy ... . Mirza is not a film by which I will get my money back. I made the film to bring back trust in Bengali commercial films.
