Alibabavum 40 Thirudargalum is notably the first Tamil film to be fully made in colour and was shot in Gevacolor. It revolves around the central character Ali Baba who chances upon the treasure cave of 40 thieves and must keep it a secret, while continuing to enjoy his newly found affluent lifestyle.

Nadodi Mannan is a 1958 action adventure film starring MGR, P Bhanumathi, MN Rajam, Saroja Devi, and others. As the lookalike begins to rule the country and implements pro-poor schemes, this irks the high priest who has orchestrated the abduction and lookalike replacement.

A remake of the 1962 Hindi film China Town, the film revolves around long-lost twins. One of them grows up to be a criminal, while the other has to capture him. MGR won his first Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Actor for his performances in the film. The film is directed by K Shankar.
