The film will hit theatres along with Love Mocktail 2 in the run-up to Valentine’s Day
Filmmaker-actor MG Srinivas’ next, the romantic comedy Old Monk is getting a February 11 theatrical release. The film, which pairs Srini with his Ranganayaki co-star Aditi Prabhudeva yet again, will join Darling Krishna’s Love Mocktail 2 as the Valentine’s Day weekend releases. The release date, says Srini, is not only apt because his film is a love story, but also because it comes well before the big Kannada release in February, Vikrant Rona.
Old Monk, quite literally is about an ancient sanyasi, with the filmmaker using a concept involving the divine sage Narada and his quest to find love on Earth for his story. The movie is about the sage from Hindu mythology who has been instructed by Lord Krishna to find love and companionship on Earth to understand the true value of love. Old Monk, which also stars Aditi Prabhudeva, S Narayan, Sudev Nair, Sihi Kahi Chandru, Rajesh, Aruna Balraj and Sujay Shastry, was recently cleared by the censor board with U/A certification. “The film is a fictionalized account of mythology, involving Krishna, Rukmini and Narada muni, which then pans out in modern day. The idea is simple, when Rukmini walks out on Krishna after a fight, the latter ends up cursing Narada to a life on earth, with the curse to be broken only if he manages to fall in love with someone and have her family accept him as well. But then, he is sent into a family that does not approve of love relationships. Will he be able to break his curse and return to Devaloka forms the crux of the story,” explains Srini, who is currently shooting for an as-yet-untitled thriller in Hyderabad.
Once back, Srini will get busy with the release of Old Monk and then head to the set of the horror-comedy Andalamma, directed by Nuthan Umesh. “Andalamma will probably start in March next year, after that it is a toss-up between an untitled action-thriller and the next installment of Birbal. I have not decided which one to start first,” he signs off.
