Meiyazhagan, starring Karthi and Arvind Swamy, was trimmed by 18 minutes due to audience feedback on its nearly three-hour runtime.
We had earlier reported that the recently released Tamil film Meiyazhagan, starring Karthi and Arvind Swamy in the lead roles, will be trimmed by 18 minutes after a section of audience felt the nearly-three-hour runtime of the film as cumbersome. But here are the scenes that got chopped off in the new edit.
Meiyazhagan is currently running theatres. The film features actor Arvind Swamy and Karthi in the lead roles and is directed by Prem Kumar. While the film majorly received positive response upon its release, a section of audience felt the three-hour long runtime of the film cumbersome. The original version of Meiyazhagan which debuted in theatres had a runtime of two hours and 57 minutes.
With the film being dialogue heavy, and about two men who meet after a long time, Meiyazhagan is a conversational film which touches upon various socio-political issues like jallikattu protests, Chola culture, Sterlite firings, and Eelam. Now, taking the audience request, the makers decided to trip the film by 18 minutes.
It is said that a few portions of jallikattu, and where the men talk about the socio-political issues over a drink, have been chopped off. With this, a new cut version has been playing in theatres from October 1.
Meiyazhagan is written and directed by Prem Kumar, who earlier made the critically acclaimed film 96. The upcoming film marks the director’s second film after 96 and first collaboration with Karthi. Bankrolled by Suriya and Jyothika under the banner 2D Entertainment.
It also stars Sri Divya, Rajkiran, Devadarshini, Jayaprakash, Saran and others. The technical crew of the film consists of Mahendran Jayaraju cranking the camera and Govind Vasantha scoring the music. Actor Kamal Haasan has also lent his voice to one of the tracks in the film. R Givindaraj has handled the edits. The post-theatrical streaming rights of the film have been bagged by Netflix.
