The protagonist of the tale is Bhuvana Chandran, a bankrupt and struggling entrepreneur who becomes embroiled in a land dispute in Tamil Nadu between Pandi Durai and Karuppayya Swami, two strong men connected by marriage. In the meantime, he becomes Durai's close confidante and becomes entangled in a romantic triangle.

The narrative centres on Unnikrishnan, the bus owner, and Sundareshan, his helper, who both reside and sleep aboard the vehicle. It was one of the biggest-grossing Malayalam films of 2001 and is regarded as one of the best slapstick comedies in Malayalam cinema. In Kerala, the movie eventually became a cult comedy drama.
