Sanya Malhotra and Abhimanyu Dassani starrer Meenakshi Sundareshwar is all set for a Diwali release on Netflix. Vivek Soni, who is known for helming films like Trapped Hasee To Phasee and Shandaar, has directed the film. Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions has backed it and Justin Prabhakaran has done the music.

What is the plot?
Meenakshi Sunderashwar revolves around the central theme of long-distance relationships in today’s day and age of modern love. A newly-wed couple has to live apart in different cities given the circumstances and soon cracks creep in their conjugal life. The film is a story about that. Sundareshwar is an engineer. Following his aspirations to work at an MNC, he moves to Bangalore. And Meenakshi, a Rajnikanth fan, has her career aspirations to work for a small company and to make a mark there. After tying the knot, she lives with her in-laws and the young couple stay in touch through messages and video calls. The film traces the journey of the couple and how they rise from their differences and conflicts and stay together eventually.

What does Sanya Malhotra have to say about the film?
Sanya Malhotra described the film as ‘homecoming’ for her as it marks her return to Netflix after recent titles on the platform like Pagglait and Ludo. She added that the experience of working with co-actor Abhimanyu and the director has been great. That it is locked for a digital release on Netflix is a huge positive, since it opens it up to a global audience. “The film offers something for everybody, and audiences all over the world will find the film appealing and will relate to it,” she had earlier said in an interview. She had also disclosed that she could relate to the theme of the film since she has personally been in a long-distance relationship. And in an interview with IANS, the Pagglait actor reflected on how the film was a learning curve for her, citing an instance when she took inspiration for a montage from a visual reference photo.
