The buzz in industry circles was that Max would take up Bhairathi Ranagal’s release date, but the latest is that the makers are aiming for a festival outing
July 28, 2022 is when Kiccha Sudeep last had a theatrical release. Well, he had a cameo in 2023’s Kabzaa, but as a film that had Sudeep in the lead, Vikrant Rona was the last. His fans have been waiting with bated breath for his next, which he took a while to announce, although there was news of various possible collaborations.

Max, produced by Kalaipuli S Thanu and directed by debutant Vijay Karthikeyan, was the first to be greenlit and go on floors. At the time, the buzz was that Sudeep had okayed it on the condition that there would be quick turnaround. But nearly a year later, there is no sign of it yet.
Max release: Conflicting rumours about status of Kiccha Sudeep’s latest abound
Recently, there were reports that Max would be in theatres on August 15, given that Shivarajkumar’s Bhairathi Ranagal has bowed out of the Independence Day race. But then three other Kannada films – Powder, Krishnam Pranaya Sakhi and Gowri – have staked claim to the date, which industry insiders would not have happened if Max was being considered for August 15. Powder is a KRG Studios production, the banner that is backing Sudeep’s next directorial venture, so a clash is unlikely.

OTTplay spoke to a source close to the team, who revealed that August 15 was a date that the team was toying with. It is out of the equation now, but the release is not far off. “Max is nearly complete; there’s some patchwork and dubbing pending. They are now contemplating a September release,” he says. Could it be a birthday special gift from Sudeep to his fans? “That’s the plan,” adds the source, saying that September 6th is tentative date as of now, making it a Ganesha Chaturthi release.
