Saturday and Sunday were terrible days for movie buffs globally! On Saturday evening, Hollywood actor Matthew Perry – best known for his role as Chandler Bing in the sitcom ‘F.R.I.E.N.D.S’ – passed away on Saturday at his home. He was 54. The cause of the death remains unknown. While the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner continues to find out the exact cause of death, here’s what we know so far.
Matthew Perry’s autopsy report
A spokesperson told People on Sunday that the results of Matthew Perry’s autopsy are pending a toxicology report, which can take several weeks to complete. As per a press statement available online, the Los Angeles medical department has stated that the cause of death has been “deferred”.
“Deferred means that after an autopsy, a cause of death has not been determined and the medical examiner is requesting more investigation into the death, including additional studies,” a spokesperson for the department said.

Matthew Perry: The Best ‘Friend’
Matthew Perry, renowned for his portrayal of Chandler Bing on the television sitcom 'Friends' from 1994 to 2004, was not just an actor. His versatile career included roles in Ally McBeal (2002), earning him Primetime Emmy Award nominations for The West Wing (2003) and The Ron Clark Story (2006). Perry showcased his talent in leading film roles in Fools Rush In (1997), Almost Heroes (1998), Three to Tango (1999), The Whole Nine Yards (2000), Serving Sara (2002), The Whole Ten Yards (2005), and 17 Again (2009). His voice even graced the character Benny in the video game Fallout: New Vegas (2010).
Beyond the screen, Perry took on the challenging portrayal of Ted Kennedy in The Kennedys: After Camelot (2017) and made a memorable appearance as himself in Friends: The Reunion (2021).
However, Perry faced personal struggles, battling severe addictions to drugs and alcohol. In his journey of recovery, he became a prominent advocate for rehabilitation and served as a spokesperson for the National Association of Drug Court Professionals. Perry shared his experiences and insights in a memoir titled Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing, published in 2022.
