Sathish Ninasam and Rachita Ram, the hit pair of the Kannada film Ayogya, reunited for a horror comedy called Matinee, which hit theatres in April this year. Directed by debutant Manohar Kampalli, the film had opened to lukewarm response, with critics stating that it offered nothing novel, playing instead only with the stereotypes of the genre.

The film is now finally headed to OTT. Sun Network had picked up the satellite and digital rights of Matinee and the film will be available to stream starting December 6, 2024. Matinee revolves around a group of friends, one of who, Arun, played by Sathish, owns, among other things, a mansion worth several crores. In a bid to make a quick buck, his friends try to convince him to sell the property, under the pretext that the building is haunted. Soon enough, their plan backfires, when it turns out that there’s an actual supernatural presence there.

The film’s unimaginative screenplay, lack of an engaging and intriguing narrative and underdeveloped characters were pointed out as its major flaws, with the cast, comprising seasoned actors, trying to make the most with the limited settings they had to work with. The film’s music is by Poornachandra Tejaswi and cinematography by Sudhakar S Raj.

Meanwhile, Sathish and Rachita are set to collaborate yet again on the newly-announced sequel to Ayogya. The actors will reprise their characters Siddha and Nandini from Ayogya, as will the rest of the cast too. Director Mahesh Kumar announced on December 3 that Ayogya 2 will go on floors on December 11. The filmmaker had earlier announced a collaboration with Abishek Ambareesh, but there’s been no update about the project.
