M S Bhaskar, Aradhya, Aadukalam Naren, Bava Chelladurai, and E Praveen Kumar are among the supporting cast of the film, which is directed by Mantra Veerapandian. The director himself has penned the screenplay for Mathimaran.
Reviews for the movie were mixed, but many complimented the director for giving the new actors a chance to shine and for the compelling storyline. Some, however, drew attention to Mathimaran's shortcomings, which included his preachy tone in a few scenes.
Lenin Babu has produced the film under the banner of GS Cinema International. Parvaez K has helmed the camera work, while Sathish Suriya is the editor. The soundtracks for Mathimaran have been composed by Karthik Raja. Gnanakaravel and Bala Seetharaman have penned the lyrics for the songs. The movie hit the big screen on December 29.
Mathimaran revolves around a man who endures discrimination because of a physical deformity. It also examines how he deals with the pressures from society that result from it. The movie's main characters are Mathi and Nedumaran, the twins. Nedumaran is a dwarf and is subjected to constant bullying and taunts from his school and college due to his demeanour.

Mathi makes the terrible choice to elope with her college professor, which drastically changes their lives. Her parents kill themselves because they cannot cope with society's taunts. Later, Nedumaran moves to Chennai to live with his sister and her husband.
A lethal serial killer is at large in Chennai in the meantime. With the help of Prabavathy, a police officer, and his romantic interest, he tracks down the perpetrator of the crime. The film concludes with a social message: one of the cruellest things that can happen to someone is body shaming.
