All eyes are on Austin Butler as Steven Spielberg returns to war-drama with Masters of the Air. Apple TV+ dropped the first trailer on November 9, and since then, netizens are buzzing about Butler's captivating transformation. The upcoming war-drama marks Spielberg, Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman’s third collaboration after the critically acclaimed Band of Brothers (2001) and The Pacific (2010).
What is it about Masters of the Air?
Inspired by Donald L. Miller's acclaimed 2007 namesake book, the war-drama dives into the traumatic experiences of the 100th Bomb Group, a World War II unit of the US Army Air Forces. Nicknamed as the ‘Bloody Hundredth’ for their distressing losses during crucial bombing missions, their story embodies the courage and sacrifice of American airmen in the fight against Nazi Germany.

However, Apple TV+ has recently dropped some intriguing glimpses of Master of the Air, reigniting online buzz. These sneak-peeks offer exclusive clips of aerial bombing and combat sequences, further building anticipation for the war-drama. Following the reveal of Austin Butler's role, the streaming platform has now unveiled a first look at Sawyer Spielberg, son of director Steven Spielberg, fighting with sheer courage in mid-air.
Masters of the Air trailer
Back in November last year, the trailer took viewers back to a dark time of war, showing the terrible things that happened during Hitler's rule. It began with Austin Butler saying, "Get ready for action!", which gives a hint that soldiers will work together to overcome big challenges. The exciting trailer followed Air Force soldiers and their leaders as they fight for their lives, and try to find hope in the middle of all the dangers in mid-air.
Masters of the Air has nine episodes, which is co-directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga, Dee Rees, Anna Boden, Ryan Fleck and Tim Van Patten. The war-drama is co-produced by Steven Spielberg, Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman.
Release date
Masters of the Air will be exclusively released on January 26, 2024, only on AppleTV+.
