The duo play fictionalised versions of themselves in the series Masaba Masaba.
Masaba Masaba gave viewers a glimpse into the chaotic and intriguing lives of Masaba Gupta and Neena Gupta. The mother-daughter duo play fictionalised versions of themselves in the show, and won hearts with their delightful dynamic. Masaba recently opened up about an incident where her mother tried to play cupid in the former’s life, trying to find the ‘perfect match’ for Masaba.
In conversation with The Indian Express, Masaba recalled how worried Neena had been when the former was still single in her mid 20s. Masaba said that she did not want to meet men at the time and was spending her days having fun with her friends. Neena had been worried that her daughter would not find a man and spend her days ‘chilling’.
Neena had gone so far as to find a boy for Masaba by herself. Masaba recalled how her mother had tutored the former about the prospective match, including details about his work and salary and how he came from a ‘good family’. Speaking of how Neena seemed to be in ‘full Sima Taparia mode’ at the time, Masaba said that her mother had even sought help from her uncle from Bangalore as well to find a match from the corporate field.
Masaba also opened up about how Neena had once asked her to enrol in a management college, to find a ‘suitable match’ for her from the institute. “I was like I am not going to study to find a guy. She tried to play Cupid in a big way”, said Masaba.
In addition to Masaba and Neena, the show also stars Neil Bhoopalam, Ram Kapoor, Kusha Kapila, and Barkha Singh in pivotal roles. Masaba Masaba returned to the silver screen for its second season, which premiered on Friday. The show is available for streaming on Netflix.
