Amazon Prime Video is set to drop its third documentary on a musician in less than two months. After J Balvin’s The Boy from Medellin and Pink: All I Know So Far in May, the streamer is now gearing up to release a documentary on US singer Mary J Blige.
Titled My Life, the Vanessa Roth directorial will celebrate the most influential eponymous album of the singer. The nine-time Grammy-winning singer and actress’ 1994 LP My Life was a trailblazer record of sorts with it being “a collection of powerful confessionals about her battles with abuse, depression and addiction that forged a profound and enduring connection with millions of fans around the globe”.
The upcoming documentary will have Blige, who is referred as the Queen of hip hop and RnB, talking about the demons she had to battle as well as the blessings that inspired the record, which propelled her to international stardom. Incidentally, the documentary will also be the first time that she would be talking in-depth about the record. It will also include exclusive footages of her live performance of the album on its 25th anniversary.
In the trailer, Mary talks about how music guided her and helped her get out of the New York City projects. The trailer also reveals interviews with musicians Sean Combs and Alicia Keys among other celebs, who explain how much the album influenced their lives and careers.
The documentary, which is produced by Ashaunna K Ayars and Q Nicole Jackson, is set to release on Amazon Prime Video on June 25.
