The one question that Care of Kancharapalem maker Venkatesh Maha gets asked everywhere is ‘when can we see your next as a director?’ While the storyteller is using the crowdfunding approach to helm his fantasy film Marmaanvuvu, he will have another theatrical release before the ambitious project. He’s also serving as a creative producer for a film titled Martin Luther King.

Martin Luther King is the Telugu adaptation of Yogi Babu’s national-award-winning Tamil film Mandela, that released directly on Netflix. In what seems like an apt choice, Hrudaya Kaleyam, Kobbari Matta actor Sampoornesh Babu will reprise the role of the lead protagonist. Puja Kolluru will be making her directorial debut with the film, which will be released in theatres on October 27.

Before Martin Luther King, Venkatesh Maha was the director of another remake - Uma Maheshwara Ugra Roopasya (released directly on Netflix) was the Telugu adaptation of Fahadh Faasil’s Maheshinte Prathikaram. Anticipating a ‘why another remake?’ question from the public, the filmmaker shared why it was important to make this film over a tweet earlier today.

“A @PujaKolluru Directorial and yes my next film! A remake of an essential film is equal to the remakes of all the epics from mother languages to other languages. It is for the people who couldn’t afford reading or watching them in the original language. Let’s celebrate this #MartinLutherKing. A story that tells our story!” Venkatesh Maha tweeted. Dil Raju has acquired the film’s distribution rights.

S Sashikanth and Chakravarthy Ramachandra are bankrolling the film which also stars Venkatesh Maha, Saranya Pradeep, Naresh and others in key roles. Y Not Studios and Reliance Entertainment are presenting the film produced by Mahayana Motion Pictures. “Coming to meet you again..with a great story.. hope you bless our efforts,” Sampoornesh Babu posted on social media.
