Marmalade marks the directorial debut of Aussie American actor Keir O’Donnell, who has written the film’s screenplay as well. Renowned for works like Wedding Crashers and Masters of Sex, O’Donnell brings his immense boatload of acting experience to behind the lens. If he will be able to spin magic naturally, like Bradley Cooper and Greta Gerwig, is yet to be seen.

The film stars the likes of Daisy Jones & the Six’s star Camila Morrone and Black Adam’s Aldis Hodge in the leading roles, along with Stranger Things actor Joe Keery. The film is slated for a February 9, 2024-release, guaranteeing a fun watch for Valentine’s Week. It dropped its trailer on January 5, 2024, fanning further anticipation and speculation about the film.

Marmalade’s trailer offers a fleeting view of the plot, showing off Joe Keery with long, mussed up hair, making it an even better watch, thanks to his cuteness. Camila Morrone enters into his simple life as Marmalade, the mysterious yet ‘fun-loving’ girl of his dreams. She promises sincerity and support, but during the trailer, often a stench of betrayal emanates from her, making viewers fear for Joe Keery’s naive Baron.

Though the concern and need are Baron’s, it is the eponymous heroine who comes up with the plan and gunpowder to solve it. Unfortunately, the resolution is one that Bonnie of Hollywood and Babli of Bollywood would come up with- robbing a bank. Emboldened by the need for his mother’s medication, Baron sets upon the whimsical, risky adventure with Marmalade, trusting her with his whole heart.

Marmalade’s trailer makes it a compelling watch, infusing its heist saga with a possibly doomed, passionate love story, as well as crates of drama, that only need to be popped open when the bubbly sensation gained, while gawping at the steamy chemistry of Keery’s Baron and Morrone’s Marmalade, begins to recede.
