The director faced the wrath of Kamal's fans after he criticized Thevar Magan
Udhayanidhi, Kamal Haasan and Mari Selvaraj
Mari Selvaraj, who won praises from one and all for his films Pariyerum Perumal and Karnan, faced backlash recently when his comment on Kamal Haasan's iconic film Thevar Magan went viral. What irked the fans of Ulaganayagan was the director criticizing the movie at Maamannan's audio launch in the presence of the veteran actor-filmmaker.

Netizens were divided on the young filmmaker's take on the three-decade-old blockbuster movie. While a few opined that Mari couldn't understand what Thevar Magan intended to convey, there were those who said that the Bharathan directorial wasn't free of flaws.
Ahead of Maamannan's release tomorrow, Mari has now taken to his social media page to thank Kamal for showering love on him and his movies. He also posted a picture that has him posing for a photo along with Kamal and Udhayanidhi.
Udhay, who is also the producer of the movie, thanked the Ulaganayagan for standing by him from the movie's beginning. Earlier today, Dhanush heaped praise on Maamannan after watching the film, thus raising expectations on the already-hyped project. The presence of seasoned actors and AR Rahman's music are prime highlights of the movie.
The film revolves around a father-son duo's battle for self-respect. They fight back when they are provoked unnecessarily by caste-fanatic groups. Maamannan is said to be based on a true incident, but the filmmaker has neither confirmed nor denied this.
