Rani Mukerji returns with Mardaani 3

A while ago, the official handle of YRF took to Instagram and shared the announcement. Without revealing much details, they shared that Rani's Mardaani 3 will hit theatres in 2026. Their post read, "The wait is over! #RaniMukerji is back as the fierce Shivani Shivaji Roy in #Mardaani3. In cinemas 2026." The film will be helmed by Abhiraj Minawala, who earlier directed Aayush Sharma's Loveyatri. He is currently working as an associate director on Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR's War 2.

Soon after the announcement was shared on social media, fans were seen expressing joy. A fan wrote, "We don't need Lady Singham. We need Shivani Shivaji Roy. Excited." Another fan wrote, "Finally we have an announcement…. The most awaited time for any #Ranian #ranimukerji you make us wait alottttt." Others were seen dropping fire emojis.

Rani Mukerji opens up on Mardaani 3

While speaking about the third installment of Mardaani, the actress said in a statement that she will begin shooting for the film in April 2025. She said, "It is always special to wear the police uniform and play a character that has only given me love. I’m proud to essay the character of this feisty cop again in Mardaani 3 as a tribute to all the unsung, brave, self-sacrificing cops who work tirelessly every single day to keep us safe."

Further, speaking about the plot, she promises that Mardaani 3 will be 'dark, deadly and brutal'. She added, "When we set out to make Mardaani 3, we were hoping that we find a script that would take the experience of watching a Mardaani franchise film higher. I am really excited about what we have at hand and I’m only hoping that the audience too feels the same after watching Mardaani 3 in theatres!"

She continued, "Mardaani is an extremely loved franchise and we have a certain responsibility to deliver to the expectation that people have. We will do our best to live up to this. Mardaani 3 is dark, deadly and brutal. So, I’m intrigued to find out the response of the people towards our film. I hope they shower this film with the same amount of love that they have always given."
